13 Jan Record home sales in Santa Fe
“It’s the COVID effect,” Duran said [Stephanie Duran, an associate broker with Barker Realty]. “People have been realizing they don’t need to be at the office. They can live anywhere. At the same time, they are fleeing higher density. Instead of just retiring to Santa Fe, they can live in Santa Fe now instead of having a multidecade dream of living here.”
Demand for homes in Santa Fe continues at a fast pace, drawing homebuyers from Texas, Colorado and increasingly the East Coast and California, business editor Teya Vitu writes in the Santa Fe New Mexican. With a 31 percent jump in home sales in the fourth quarter of 2020 as compared to the same period in 2019, the pace was on par for home sales the previous quarter (557 versus 558 homes sold.) Traditionally, winter sees a notable dip in Santa Fe’s residential real estate market. Not this year. The fourth quarter saw a 19.5 percent increase in the median price, now topping $537,700 – a record high. Catch up with Teya and the full article at “Record home sales continue into winter.”
