04 Jul Albuquerque Rates in the Top 10 for Women in Tech
Albuquerque ranks #9 on the list for Women in Tech, according to a 2021 study conducted by SmartAsset. As tech opportunities migrate out of Silicone Valley, still considered the premier high-tech hub, women are enjoying increased options. “Women can seize tech opportunities in Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, Colorado, Texas, Ohio, New Mexico, Florida, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Georgia and Washington D.C.,” says SmartAsset. Women still face a large pay gap compared to what men make in this sector, but Albuquerque is doing better than other cities on the list. In the Duke City, women make 95 cents on the dollar.
“We’re carving out a strong foothold for Albuquerque in the tech industry, and in the ongoing effort to close gaps in pay equity across all sectors,” said Mayor Tim Keller in the city’s March 21, 2021 Community Hall Newsletter. “We’re grateful to see Albuquerque emerge as a leader compared to our peers for economic vitality in spite of the pandemic, our COVID response, and now as a top city for women in tech.”
