Sense of Place

National Geographic honored Santa Fe with its prestigious “Sense of Place” award at the magazine’s World Legacy Awards gala held in Berlin on March 8, 2017. This recognition celebrates the City of Santa Fe’s achievement in supporting historic monuments, vernacular architecture, indigenous heritage and artistic traditions.

The magazine writes: “If American pioneers from more than a century ago re-appeared in Santa Fe’s plaza today, they would recognize it instantly. The city of Santa Fe, the United States’ oldest state capital, considers safeguarding its rich heritage a duty.”
